It is possible John Cloud flew off his rocker and bumped his head before writing the recent Time article discussing the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network's (GLSEN) call to pass the Matthew Shepard Act. This legislation would increase resources of the federal government to prosecute hate crimes. It is not Cloud's rant, but ignorance of the plight of gay and lesbian youth that is particularly shocking.

Writing about the fifteen year old executed sitting in his eighth grade classroom, Cloud enlists reasons for not supporting increased resources for hate crime prosecutions. One day before his murder, he was accosted by at least 3 boys, including the assailant. Cloud maintains, "It's not clear that officials [at the school] looked the other way," while students tell media after the shooting they saw classmates taunt Lawrence King on previous occasions. He wore heels, jewelry, makeup, and painted nails. What happened to a school environment where a student feels comfortable telling their teacher or counselor someone is harassing themselves or a friend?

Cloud goes on to assert: "The task force is exaggerating the frequency of assaults on gay kids, the vast majority of whom make it through school safe and happy. GLSEN itself has published a great deal of survey data showing that most gay kids aren't suffering the way King did."

Reports of students fatally shot in classrooms with their peers is, fortunately, low. Mr. Cloud's assumption that most gay youth are happy with their high school experience based on one three year-old poll that shows 1 in 5 gay youth are assaulted, however, is sad and misguided. Responding to statistics that 2/3 of gay youth are verbally abused, Cloud states, "It's difficult to imagine the teenager who has never been painfully teased about something."

Does accuweather think people are really paying attention to their comments? As long as accuweather does not have legal liability to the general public for taxpayer warning services for the protection of life and property, they can sit back and arm chair quarter back, and claim they are the latest and greatest since sliced bread. But, since they'll never assume the legal liability for missing a warning for the general population, their claims hold little water and has little weight. They can talk a good game, as long as they aren't legally liable for missed warning services to the taxpayers. I don't think they want to be sued every other event for missing warnings. It's much different taking on the govt. vs taking on accuweather. Oh, do they ever mention they are using NWS govt. fed data via NWS/NOAA radars, satellite, and numerical and graphical model output? I guess the govt. could shut those off for a while and see how far they get with their "more than perfect" forecasting services. The NWS has good partnerships with many media outlets. Why do they have to be such a pain in the rump? Must be coming from the top there. Who's one of their guys again? Bastard(i)?

P.S. the Qur'an has no injunctions against depicting anything, only against the worship of idols. Muslims aren't bound by the 10 Commandments, only the commandments found in the Qur'an. Dumbasses

These people are idiots. Do they know that during the early years of Islam and the 'Golden Age', there were full facial depictions of Muhammed?
